Changeling is a Rogue who takes on dangerous missions alongside her partner The Spy for the Rogues Guild functioning as the team's main spell-caster.
Appearance[]
A beautiful woman with red hair and easily be mistaken for an Elf, sporting pointed ears that were shorter than an Elf's but longer than a Half-Elf's. She wears a casual blouse, skirt, and long boots in her everyday life, but "on the job" she throws on a large overcoat.
Despite her obvious beauty, she doesn't think she's very pretty oddly, even admitting jealousy that a new younger girl "filled out" the Harefolk Girl costume they were wearing far better than she did.
Personality[]
Changeling is a friendly and outgoing woman for a Rogue, being able to fit in anywhere she goes which is very useful for a Rogue. She's also friendly enough to the point that people remember her even if some time has passed and consider her a "friendly woman" which she uses to keep getting closer to people.
Chronology[]
Background[]
Born to Human parents, her birth threw everyone through a loop when she showed Elven features. When people realized she was a changeling, slavers came to take her away, but she was rescued by a boy she liked; however, said the rescue cost him his life. Because of this and her aptitude for magic, she joined the Rogues Guild to rid the world of slavers. During her early life, Changeling served as an apprentice to an apothecary.
Goblin Slayer Volume 10[]
Spy makes a calculated withdrawal
After Goblin Slayer had hired the Rogues Guild to look into a certain Wine Merchant's rather strange actions, Changeling and Spy were put on the case. One night, Spy and Changeling infiltrate the Wine Merchant's villa in Water Town, which they are able to enter thanks to Changeling's ability to communicate with a Rock Eater larva. Inside, they searched for the incriminating evidence they needed and planted some incriminating evidence of their own.
Suddenly, a Troll attacks them forcing the two to make a calculated withdrawal back to the rest of their team for a speedy getaway. Changeling notices the Troll still chasing them, which she realizes is Spy's plan to cause havoc and lead the city guard back to the villa. After causing enough chaos in the streets, Changeling pleads with Spy to finish the job and kill the Troll before innocent people get hurt, and he obliges.[1]
Goblin Slayer Volume 11[]
Changeling helps Spy and her team escape the Desert Capital
Changeling appears in the Desert Kingdom alongside her Party on their job to escort the Handmaidens of the Desert Princess out of the palace. She helps create rain to strengthen Driver's Kelpie spirit to go faster as they outrun the Goblin Riders. Successfully, Changeling helped drop the girls off as she is prepared for the next step.[2]
Later, in the Desert Capital, Changeling runs into Priestess, and she helps her out of a city guard scam and escorts her to the Golden Mirage, a bar run by the Rogues Guild. There she spends some time with Priestess and watches Spy take care of a disturbance in the bar, Changeling notices the student of Burglar, Goblin Slayer, walk out of the back offices and leave with Priestess, much to her shock. As she and Spy went into the back, getting the instructions for the next phase of their job.[3]
During the final phase of her mission, she infiltrates the same fortress that Goblin Slayer's party was infiltrating. While the fortress' soldiers are fighting against the Goblins that escaped from the underground cells, Spy kills the Guard Captain in his office. Changeling and Knowledge Acolyte swiftly grabbed all the documents they were tasked with getting. Afterwards, she and Spy cover the corpse with a cover before taking off with it. As they run while pretending to carry an injured person, the pair cross paths with Goblin Slayer's group that were running in the opposite direction. Changeling recognizes Priestess and silently prayed for Priestess's fortune. Of course, Changeling never thought her prays would be answered in the form of Goblin Slayer finding a way to cause a swarm of Sand Manta to fly by the Fortress creating a massive sandstorm! Changeling could only laugh as Spy and Knowledge Acolyte complained about Goblin Slayer's rather crazy methods.[4]
Goblin Slayer Volume 12[]
Changeling and Spy celebrate the completion of a long mission
Changeling and her team are tasked with performing an assassination on a Half-Elf woman who has been selling opium from her suppliers, something Changeling is not comfortable with. As they stake out the area, Changeling performs her Astral Projection spell to survey the apartment complex. When she returns from her Astral Projection scouting, confirming their target was in her apartment. However, someone beats them to the punch and the girl is already dead! Suddenly, a City Guardswoman attacks the two, forcing Spy to activate his Overdrive to escape the scene with Changeling, getting back to the coach and fleeing into the sewers. In the sewers, Knowledge Cleric notes how quickly the city guard appeared and theorizes the city guard killed the addict because they were her suppliers. With this and a trip to the Knowledge Temple for some census data, Changeling sees in the data a possible connection between a certain minor noble house and an Elf mistress.
Changeling remembers her time as an apprentice to an apothecary and is able to deduce that the Elf mistress in his house was trying not to get pregnant, but failed and had a bastard child. With this, Knowledge Cleric deduces that the Guardswoman was the addict's half-sister and used her to get the drugs to sell before finally burning her bridges and getting herself killed. Disgusted, Changeling and Spy return to the crime scene, and they collect the city guard dagger as well as evidence of the Guardswoman supplying her sister with drugs from the City Guard. Confronted, Changeling watches as Spy ends her and dumps her body in the sewers when she reveals she hates Elves, and hears him admit he prefers "Elf Women".
The next morning, the Silver-Haired Maid appears and collects the evidence of the Water Town City Guard's corruption, and thanks them for his service. Absolutely exhausted, the team split up, but Changeling follows Spy and asks him if he would take her to a Wizball game someday. Spy promises to take her, and buy her as much peanuts and crackers as she wants.[5]
Goblin Slayer Volume 15[]
Changeling agrees to help out Supreme God's Cleric
On the search for a Coachman, a slaver specializing in Centaurs, Changeling stakes out a casino run by the Rogues Guild called "The Mermaid", undercover as a "Harefolk Girl" waitress. While preparing to go out on the floor, Changeling lamented she not only didn't get the appeal of the "bunny-ears", she lamented that her slim body didn't exactly "fill out" the corset as much as she would like. Suddenly, a pair of new girls burst into the changing room begging for her help. Supreme God's Cleric and Harefolk Hunter were tasked with keeping an eye on, and protecting, a VIP's guest, but said guest was a friend of theirs and Cleric didn't want to be seen in the embarrassing outfit. Though Changeling was admittedly annoyed Cleric called her "her senior", she took pity on the girl, knowing she likewise wouldn't want Spy to get an eye full of her in the costume either. As she set out, she realized said guest was Priestess, who considered her a friend and quite a "coincidence" she had run into Changeling, fearing she blew her cover. As the two enjoyed a Mermaid dance, Priestess asked Changeling why all the girls were wearing the "Hairfolk Girl" uniform, to which Changeling told her "Don't ask".[6]
Eventually, the Coachman had come to the casino and left, allowing Spy to perform the hit successfully thanks to Changeling holding him down with her shadow magic. As he disposed of the evidence, Spy notices Changeling rather revealing "Harefolk Girl" and stated she looks "quite tempting", much to her embarrassment.[7]
