Step 4: Critical Hit of the Tiger[]
A friendly chat
As Captain enters the tavern, he is greeted by The Informant who congratulates and thanks him for heeding her call to action in slaying the "Newbie Hunters". Though thankful for her advice, Captain realizes he never told anyone of his success aside from the Smith and Trade Nun leading him to believe Trade Nun had divulged information to someone about him due to her miserly attitude. Still the two make small talk and the Informant makes it clear she wants to be of help to Captain and others before disappearing as Knight of Diamonds and Silver-Haired Scout invite themselves to having a talk with Captain. The two Party Leaders discuss a certain up and coming Party making a name for themselves and discuss what kind of plans they had for progressing onto the third floor of the dungeon. Not long after, Female Warrior shows up as the two return to their Party.
In the dungeon, the Party makes the long trek to the third floor, while running into more Slimes for Female Warrior and zombies, Female Wizard complains at how long it takes to get to the different floors. As she debates making a Gate to make transportation easier, Myrmidon Monk warns her the dangers of using a Gate in the Dungeon pointing out the skeletal remains stuck in the walls are, in fact, failed Gate users. Seeing this, they make it to the third floor after nearly falling for a pit trap, new monsters they've never seen, and Captain nearly breaking his foot after trying to kick down a locked door.
A close shave
As the door is unlocked by Half-Elf Scout, the Party is ambushed by a group of masked shinobi, who use their speed to cut Captain off from the rest of the Party. Engaging the shinobi, Captain is able to hold them off until he miscalculates timing and they use their speed to swiftly slice Captain's throat!
Shocked by the sudden turn of events, Myrmidon Monk orders the Party to keep formation and Half-Elf Scout is able to save Captain from being finished off with his throwing knives. Immediately following up, Myrmidon Monk swiftly retrieves Captain and moves back to the back row with Female Bishop and Female Wizard. This sudden surprise causes Female Wizard step up and formulate a plan to rescue Captain and retreat. The Spell Casters quickly cause a distraction, allowing Female Warrior to land critical blows on the shinobi. However, before they can finish them off, the shinobi retreat which allows the Party to reorganize and give Captain emergency medical assistance.
Frustrations run high in a dire situation
As Female Bishop and Myrmidon Monk administer emergency first aid, they manage to stop the bleeding but admit the wound is deep and needs serious healing. Female Wizard takes charge and orders the retreat and to save all spells as best they can; but she is quickly interrupted by Female Warrior.
Confused and frustrated, Female Warrior asks why they aren't using Miracles to save him, something Female Wizard tries to explain as she starts to panic. Half-Elf Scout reminds her of the numerous issues: that they are further down in the Dungeon than they've ever been with no idea what around the corner on a retreat and it would take numerous Miracles to just minor heal Captain's wound, Miracles they might need just retreating. Realizing her agitation, Female Warrior apologizes and calms down. Myrmidon Monk however ends all tension by giving the women an ultimatum of breaking up the Party or apologizing and making up as he begins carrying Captain back to the surface.
A lesson must be taught
Having blacked out, Captain is whisked back to his earlier years in training to become a swordsman. His mentor, a rough around the edges womanizer tells him a story to impart a lesson. She tells him about a master of the bow who because so skilled he threw out his bow, with that she asks her student if he believes it to be true and why.
As Captain gave his answer, his sensei point outs the real point of her lesson: "What is more important, Skill or Gear"? Though Captain was admittedly stumped at the time, he tried to think about it, but then she compounded her question. "If skill was so great and you had a piece of junk, how would you fair against a novice with a regular blade, or even against another master with a perfect blade". Further stumped, she imparts the lesson: there is no answer, no one knows what you can do and what will happen at any given moment; so you must have decent skill and decent equipment.
This ain't a free show!
Awakening, Captain finds himself in the Temple of the Trade God, naked, besides an equally naked Trade Nun. She had used the Resurrection Miracle to heal him from the brink of death. As Captain is captivated by her bare beauty, Trade Nun makes a comment that she'll have to charge him if he keeps staring at her. Captain of course barely is able to hold back with a sarcastic back retort about actually paying, but is able to hold his tongue. After some humorous tension between the two, Captain thanks her and reunites with Female Bishop who had been praying for his recovery.
The next day, Captain reunites with the rest of the Party in the Tavern only to figure out they were all humorously taking bets on his survival. As they laugh it off, the subject returns to the shinobi that put them in the serious situation earlier and the Party tries to formulate a plan. Outside, Captain trains alongside Female Warrior with Female Bishop's tutelage to combat the shinobi. After taking time to process his master's lesson, Captain achieves clarity and manages to come up with a plan.
Back in the Dungeon, the Party find the shinobi and Captain shows his strategy, using his tanto in combination with his katana. Utilizing dual wielding, Captain is able to attack and defend at the same time. With this change is tactics, Captain is able to put the shinobi on the defensive alongside Female Warrior and Half-Elf Scout; allowing the spell casters to combined their spells into one large scale attack. Hitting successfully, the shinobi are decimated and the Party attain victory, with Half-Elf Scout claiming the shinobis' shurikens as his loot.
Leaving the dungeon and returning the the Tavern, Captain and the Party plot their next delve as Silver-Haired Scout and Female Warrior trade "friendly barbs". As Captain wonders if the two girls go way back he discusses and compares his progress of the Dungeon with the Knight of Diamonds. As Knight of Diamonds admits he and his Party had already fully explored the fourth floor, he warns Captain that an entrance to the fifth floor has yet to be found.
Step 5: Trial of Champions[]
A Dungeon and a Dragon, how original
On another delve, the Party takes on a dragon and barely manages to beat the beast. Returning to the surface, Half-Elf Scout suggests ordering a Royal Suite and taking a couple days off. After some deliberation, the Party agrees to at least take a couple days off to resupply and train up.
The next morning, Female Bishop invites Captain to go with her on a shopping trip and after some encouragement, he agrees to accompany her. While shopping, the pair is drawn to a sword merchant and Female Bishop uses her Appraisal skill to inspect the swords. Despite finding that the swords indeed did as advertised, dragon slayer and such, they had minor quirks that held them back. After discovering a cursed ring, the pair decide to take their leave, only for Female Bishop to be drawn to to a back alley.
An Unexpected Adventure in Babysitting
Down the alley, Female Bishop discovers a young girl, clearly lost, in the company of the Knight of Diamonds and Silver-Haired Scout. Seeing their embarrassing situation, Silver-Haired Scout promises to tell Captain an "embarrassing story" about Female Warrior in exchange for his silence, which he agrees to. Things get even more ridiculous as Knight of Diamonds admits how ludicrously he's handled trying to "help" a lost little kid.
Figuring out her plight, being separated from her older sister, Female Bishop and Silver-Haired Scout take the young girl on the "adventure" of finding her elder sister. As the ladies keep the child company, Captain and Knight of Diamonds discuss their current delves and mapping out of the Dungeon of the Dead which includes finding an entrance to the Fifth Floor. As they continue on, Knight of Diamonds let's slip that he has a younger sister and hints that she had a twin that his father sent away due to superstition. After some searching, the group reunite the girl with her older sister, the Royal Guardwoman! After returning her sister, Captain and Knight of Diamonds challenge each other to find the fifth floor of the Dungeon and go their separate ways.
A not so warm reunion
As the quartet slip, Female Bishop ran into her old Party and was not exactly thrilled to see them. Despite them appearing pleased to see her, Captain couldn't help but feel very intimidated by them. Female Bishop meanwhile is obviously taken extremely aback her former Party suddenly reappearing out of nowhere. While pleasantries were traded between the former party Members and Captain, Captain noted the veiled threats from the Party. Suddenly, Captain realized a sudden sense of unpleasantness and saw the new mentor of the Party, the Black Hat Wizard, and realized the sinister aura came from him. As the Party left, Captain realized this was the Party that the Knight of Diamonds warned him about earlier.
