Full Summary[]

Captain thinks the room reeks of blood as he counts two enemies down and seven remaining. He judges the intimidating man in the center to be the boss of the scruffy men. Their front line prepares for the fight ahead, Female Wizard asks him to buy them some time. The boss of the scruffy men similarly size's Captain's party up as three men and three women, rallies his band and the battle begins. Captain clashes with the boss of the scruffy men, while Female Warrior and Myrmidon Monk split up and keep the rest at bay. Soon the boss goes for a critical hit, and with a flash of inspiration from seeing Knight of Diamonds' wounds, realizing the boss is going for a neck blow and manages to block it in time.

The boss of the scruffy men complains that is the second time today he's failed to get a kill with that move, while Captain quietly acknowledges the brigand's raw power. They continue to clash with Captain unable to get the upper hand, and slowly getting pushed back. However he buys enough time before things become dire, as Female Wizard and Female Bishop are ready with the spell that Female Wizard had prepared for human opponents. They cast Dance on the scruffy men, and the boss loses control of his body and begins to dance. Captain takes advantage of the opening to use his own magic and casts Magic Missle on a knife to guide it into the boss's eye. With the brigand's guard fully down, Captain wastes no time in decapitating him.

As Female Wizard and Female Bishop celebrate their success, Captain turns to check on Female Warrior and Myrmidon Monk. He finds that between the two, they've finished off three more opponents, partially thanks to the Dance spell. While three more enemies remain, they're demoralized and easy to deal with. Soon only one remains alive, on the ground at Captain's swordpoint, and begging for his life saying he'll leave the dungeon and town never to return. When Captain asks the party what they should do with the surrendering scruffy man, Female Bishop speaks up saying that they should offer him salvation; that if he's truly had a change of heart it would be just to spare him. However as the man uses this opening to charge Female Bishop thinking to take advantage of her blindness, she continues on to say that if he hasn't actually changed he's fit only for death as she caves in his skull with a single blow from her staff.

The party is mildly shocked as they don't usually see Female Bishop that aggressive. Captain compliments her on a job well done, while his cousin calls her off to the side to take a break. Female Warrior quietly asks Captain if Female Bishop is alright. Captain isn't sure, and thinks hearing the man begging for his life struck a chord with her given what happened to her; yet if she isn't going to open up about it it's not their place to pry.

With that settled for the moment, it's time to check the crude shelter the scruffy men had erected to see what loot the party will get as a reward for destroying the threat. With Female Wizard and Female Bishop still off to the side of the chamber, Captain posts Female Warrior and Myrmidon Monk to stand watch, while Half-Elf Scout insists on helping him loot the place. However the first thing that catches their attention is the reeking cookpot of the scruffy men. As Half-Elf Scout asks what they were living off of down in the dungeon, Captain thinks that with no way to get proper food in the dungeon, it's all too clear what the brigands were eating. That not showing mercy was right as there were no men down there, only monsters. Half-Elf Scout who'd begun going through the goods calls his attention to one find. A blood splattered breastplate and a hair ribbon with some golden hair still attached, both consistent with the leader of the rookie girls party that they'd helped. Rather that explore the grim implications, Captain remains silent and tosses them in the bag while telling himself that they merely looked familiar, that there must be many adventurers it would match; while Half-Elf Scout quietly says he didn't see anything.

Myrmidon Monk says a short blessing for those who'd died there, and the party heads back to the surface, leaving the bodies of the scruffy men where they fell. Fortunately they aren't troubled by any wandering monsters on the way back. As the near the exit, Female Wizard remarks that now it'll be a little safer for those girls to adventure, to which Captain simply agrees.
