Full Summary[]
Captain, Female Wizard, and Half-Elf Scout arrive at the Fortress City established at the entrance to the Dungeon of the Dead. Captain takes in the sights as they head towards the tavern The Golden Knight. As the enter the tavern, Captain notices Female Bishop sitting by herself. Female Wizard chatises him for staring, while Half-Elf Scout recommends they start by sitting down for a drink. A padfoot waitress welcomes them and takes their drink orders. While waiting for her to return, they look at all the other padfoot waitresses there for the wealth the dungeon produces. After they get their drinks, Female Wizard asks what Female Bishop is doing. Half-Elf Scout explains she's identifying items from the dungeon, noting that a wizard who attempted to go into the dungeon alone would either die or suffer a fate worse than death. Captain changes the subject by noting that if she can identify items it means she's a cleric, with Female Wizard saying she must be a bishop of the Supreme God. After wondering why she's alone instead of with a party, they turn to discussing their own party and their need for more members, leading Female Wizard to suggest inviting Female Bishop to join.
Before Captain or Half-Elf Scout can respond, a couple of adventures approve Female Bishop to see if she's finished identifying the items they requested, and get angry when the result is poor quality items. Captain asks a waitress about Female Bishop. The waitress tells him that on her very first adventure things went wrong, after which she came to the Fortress City. However the rumors of her failure followed her and took on a life of their own, while her party left her behind, leaving making a living identifying items. As the two adventurers continue to berrate Female Bishop and mention it was a goblin hunt she'd screwed up and the waitress wonders why the two adventurers are unusually angry, Female Wizard repeats her suggestion that they invite her to join them. Captain decides to intervene and as he approaches sees Female Bishop's eyes up close and realizes they were injured. He chastises the men for their rudeness, and they immediately turn violent. Captain knocks them back with the hilt of his sword, but they realize from his equipment he's just a newcomer. As Captain hesistates as to whether he should draw his sword, the fight is broken up by Knight of Diamonds. The rough adventurers are intimidated by the noble looking knight and take their items and leave at his suggestion.
Captain apologizes to Knight of Diamonds for the disturbance and says he owes the knight. Knight of Diamonds says he repects Captain's passion, but not his methods, citing the gulf between those who've already braved the dungeon and those who haven't. Captain admits he was in over his head due to his inexperience, with no choice to but to draw his sword and no guarantee he'd live to sheath it. Knight of Diamonds tells him not to worry about it, but also tells him to not let his guard down citing that the two rude adventurers had just lost the other four members of their party to the dungeon as an example of its dangers.
Knight of Diamonds tells Captain to take care and compliments Captain's sword as he leaves. With the confrontation over, Half-Elf Scout and Female Wizard approach, leaving the three of them with a confused Female Bishop.
