This is the third chapter of the Goblin Slayer Side Story II: Dai Katana manga.
Full Summary[]
Captain's party sits at a table with Female Bishop introducing themselves and their goals. Half-Elf Scout boasts that he joined to uncover the secrets of the dungeon and make a name for himself, but Female Wizard deflates his boasts by revealing he'd been stuck up a tree after pranking a wizard when they met him. Female Bishop says she too once intended to do something about the dungeon. Launching into the history of the current problems she talks about how the victims of a plague rose again as the undead to attack the living, and whose victims in turn became undead as well. Undead that could not be prevented or stopped by clerics as normal. After the king ordered that the source of the death be found and destroyed, The Dungeon of the Dead was found and it and a demon lord in its depths determined to be the cause. After the army failed due to dungeon delving not being something they were trained for, the task fell to adventurers and the Fortress City was constructed as a base for those going in the dungeon. Adventurers initially sought for the demon lord, but as time past they became content with the wealth they could earn by farming the dungeon instead.
Which brings things back to the present where Captain notes he sees no sign that the dungeon will be destroyed anytime soon. Female Bishop agrees and explains that she left her temple because she wan'ted to at least try and make things better, hoping to find kindred spirits if she came to the fortress city. Captain says that if that's the case she should be down in the dungeon not sitting around identifying items. Shaken, Female Bishop goes on to explain that before she came to the fortress city or even entered the temple, she went on an adventure. Female Wizard inquries about her companions, and Female Bishop explains they left her behind saying that the dungeon would be too dangerous for a woman who lost to the likes of goblin. Female Bishop continues on to explain that on her first adventure she made a mistake and that's why she entered the temple. Captain inquires why she stays here being treated like a common item wrangler. Female Bishop replies that she wants to bring peace to the world, that even if she can't adventure herself she wants to do something to contribute.
After that Female Wizard and Half-Elf Scout signal their approval and Captain starts to explain that they're looking for a bishop and he's heard they're the only clerics who are granted the ability to identify items. Confused, Female Bishop says that they want an item identified there's no need to butter her up like this she's happy to help. Captain says that's not want they want, they want a bishop because they want another magic user for their party. Female Bishop apologies saying there are no bishops among her clients for her to suggest, and Captain gets to the point saying they mean the bishop sitting right in front of them. Female Bishop is surprised and protests that she's never been in the dungeon and lost to goblins. Half-Elf Scout says they haven't been in the dungeon either, and Female Wizard concures and states that all three of them are untested rookies. Captain formally invites Female Bishop to join their team and Female Bishop gratefully accepts.
With Female Bishop recruited, Half-Elf Scout suggests their next stop be the city temple and the group departs the tavern. As Captain looks at Female Bishop staff and recognizes she worships the Supreme God, it occurs to him to inquire which god the fortress city's temple primarily worships, and Female Bishop informs the group the temple is to the Trade God. This makes sense to the group as they walk and look at the array of stores present to give adventurers a place to spend their wealth from the dungeon. While Captain and Half-Elf Scout are distracted by the sights, Female Wizard purchases a cloth to tie around Female Bishop's damaged eyes, saying it makes her look more mysterious and pretty. Shortly after they arrive at the Trade God's temple, as a nun of the Trade God is calling some departing adventurers apostates.
