This is the fifth chapter of the Goblin Slayer Side Story II: Dai Katana manga.

Full Summary[]

After the party leaves the temple, Captain says they need just one more companion. Female Warrior recognizes that he's aiming for a full party of six. Female Wizard recalls Half-Elf Scout saying something similar before and inquires as to why the standard number is six people. Female Warrior and Half-Elf Scout explain that it's a matter of the width of the dungeon's tunnels, how many people you can keep track of during battle, and how many people the party leader can keep track of the logistics; while large groups would risk being wiped out like the army forces that were sent in when the dungeon was first discovered. With the question answered, discussion returns to where to find a sixth member. As Captain has no better ideas than returning to the tavern to try there, Female Warrior inquires as to the party's abilities, then suggests that a monk she knows would be a good fit.

She brings them to an arena where a confusing and violent game is being played. Female Wizard questions if they can really find a monk able to help in such a place. Female Warrior assures her there is one, see him and goes to bring him to them. The monk turns out to be a Myrmidon who isn't particularly impressed with the party at his first look. They aren't happy about his assessment, but are forced to admit he has a point. Nevertheless he goes with them to someplace quiet where they can sit down and discuss things. Once they're settled in, Myrmidon Monk asks Captain what his goal is in the dungeon and it occurs to Female Bishop and Female Warrior that they haven't heard what his goal is either. Captain hesitates for a moment, then proclaims that his goal is nothing less than the destruction of the Dungeon of the Dead; to find the source of the Death and strike it down. Female Bishop is surprised by this, while Myrmidon Monk considers for a moment then declares that he's in. Captain asks doesn't he care that they're new to the dungeon and city, but Myrmidon Monk replies that he did but changed his mind as he wants to see who's at the bottom of the dungeon.

With the party complete, they quickly get fully geared up and supplied before heading to the entrance of the dungeon on the mountainside overlooking the city. They discuss the long term threat of the dungeon a little on the way, while trying to quell their fears. Arriving at the entrance they find members of the royal guard standing watch, however the guard standing in the path waves off Captain's attempts to show his rank tag. She tells him that they don't worry about ranks around there anymore as half the people immediately flee or just die on their first visit to the dungeon, while the other half eventually die exploring. They're only there to make sure nothing inside the dungeon gets out. She then counts their party and offers them five body bags - no point in offering them six. Captain accepts the bags but remains undeterred, and the party continues on until they arrive at the first hallway of the dungeon proper. A dark and gloomy hallway that leaves the outline of the walls looking like a wireframe.
