Full Summary[]
As the group enters the city gates, Captain is carrying an exhausted Female Warrior on his back. After a quick discussion, at Captain's suggestion they decide to head for an in and save discussing how things went until tomorrow. However as they continue into town, they notice it's unusually festive. Captain confirms with Myrmidon Monk that the taverns in the city have inns above them, and they decide to return to the Golden Knight. Arriving back at the tavern, they tell the now scantily clad waitresses that they just got back to town and ask what's going on. One of the waitresses informs them that the celebration is because a stairway down to the third floor of the dungeon had just been discovered and points out the party of the Knight of Diamonds as the ones who discovered it. Captain can't help but compare that success to his own party being barely able to get as far as the first room of the dungeon.
Putting that aside, Captain asks to rent a room and the waitress leads them to the lodgings section. With a bit of urging from Female Wizard, Captain resists picking one of the more luxurious options, and rents a simple room with three cots for the women of the party, while the men will sleep in the stables. They settle in for the but Captain finds that he can't sleep and opts to do some training in the courtyard. As he tries to work through his frustrations, Female Warrior starts speaking to him from one of the inn's windows. After confirming that Female Warrior is doing okay, Captain asks about the other two. Female Warrior informs him that they're sound asleep and asks if Female Wizard is his sister; to which Captain clarifies that she's his cousin.
A bit more banter shows that Female Warrior has some worries, which Captain inquires about. Female Warrior again apologizes for how she did today, and pushes past Captain's attempt to spare her feelings to point out he's the party's leader, while Female Bishop awakens and listens in. Captain recognizes and speaks what she's getting at - that as leader if someone ends up slowing them down it would be up to him to dismiss them from the party. Captain continues on to say that he doesn't see the day's failures as great crimes. Rather they're the sort of crisis that everyone will find themselves in sooner or later and he'd rather they be prepared to deal with them when the come. As such he sees nothing wrong with going in as a party and getting themselves out of a bind. Female Bishop and Female Warrior are both happy to hear him say that, and Female Warrior and Captain bid each other good night.
Captain wraps up his training with his thoughts now more optimistic. He may still be inexperienced and his party untried with a long road ahead of them, but they're all alive and safe and still have tomorrow.
