Full Summary[]
Goblin Slayer and Lizard Priest fight the goblins on shore, taking out them and their warg mounts. Though the goblins lack skill, Goblin Slayer tells his teammate to not allow any of them to escape. Once the goblins are all dead, they return to the boat to keep traveling upstream. After traveling for some time, Priestess and High Elf Archer note that there is a sweet smell in the air. Goblin Slayer believes it's indicative that they are close to the goblin's nest.
Since they only eight spells left, Goblin Slayer wants to approach the situation carefully. As there is a sight up shore, Priestess thinks they are totems at first, but is horrified that she collapses on the floor of the boat. High Elf Archer looking in the direction is horrified to see that there are bodies that have been skewered as warnings, no doubt from a run in with the goblins. Lizard Priest offers a small prayer, as Dwarf Shaman attends to Priestess.
High Elf Archer seeing the fate of those decease understands their fate they fail. They finally reach the end of the river where they find a massive fortification damming the water. Dwarf Shaman is surprised that the elf had no idea of the fortress's existence, though High Elf Archer states no one came to the area due to it being the Mokele Mubenbe's territory. Goblin Slayer surmises the place was once a shrine but now has been overtaken by goblins.
Priestess, having recovered, wants to do something for the bodies, but it's risky due to being so close to the fortress. To approach the place, the adventurers hide under the cover of Dwarf's Kindle and Priestess Silence. Goblin Slayer and High Elf Archer find the door to the fortress, and they knock on it, killing four goblin guards when they come to check on the noise. High Elf Archer fusses that despite her being a scout, she more feels more like an assassin. Goblin Slayer states they will make a frontal assault, something that he does not relish.
Lizard Priest volunteers to be at the front in the upcoming attack. They are left with only seven spells according to Priestess who worries about their chances of victory. But steels herself on focusing on what she can do. First, she asks if Goblin Slayer needs any light, but the adventurer declines unless they are inside the fortress. Once there, they should treat their surroundings like a cave. Goblin Slayer then prepares to mask their scent, which involves smearing themselves with the spleen of a dead goblin, which Priestess dutifully readies with her companion. High Elf Archer is resistant to such measures, finding it disgusting. However, Dwarf Shaman and Lizard Priest restrain her so that Goblin Slayer can do his work, much to the elf's dismay.
