Temple to the Earth Mother, Western Frontier Town

Gods are a race of divine beings that influence the Four-Cornered World of adventurers; they bestow blessings, handouts, curses, and more to the Adventurers who worship them. The Gods are divided by their allegiances in 'the forces of Order & Chaos. The five most revered Gods in the Four-Cornered World are the Supreme God, the Earth Mother, the God of Trade, the God of Knowledge, and Valkyrie[1].

Order Aligned Gods[]

  • Supreme God: God of Laws/Justice, described as "Fair and Just". The Supreme God is the most commonly worshiped religion in the Four-Cornered World.
  • Earth Mother: Goddess of Love, Fertility, & War, described as a winged woman "Overflowing with delight and compassion for worldly creatures". The Earth Mother is the second most commonly worshiped religion in the Four-Cornered World.
  • Valkyrie: Goddess of War & Sex; Valkyrie was once a human slave, turned warrior adventurer who ascended into divinity. She expects all maidens who worship her to dress in "chainmail bikini" type armor.
  • God of Trade: The Trade God who is the "wind" credited to having created words; favored in the Desert Kingdom.
  • God of Knowledge: The God of Science called the "Keeper of Candles"; stresses the spread of science and thus is not suited for Adventurers. His temples usually double as schools and universities for learning.
  • Smithy God: God of Blacksmiths, worshiped by Dwarves and Human cultures such as the Vikings. It was said that he was ancient and terrible, and an enigma.
  • Goddess of Baths
  • Wine Making God

Chaos Aligned Gods[]

"Outlier God"[]

  • God of Wisdom: More properly the "God of External Wisdom", is aligned to neither Order nor Chaos and is thus hated by most if not all the other Gods for this. Is infamous for simply implanting vast knowledge into worshipers to see "what they'll do with the knowledge" for their amusement.

Great Gods[]

The Greater Gods playing their "Games"

The Great Gods, also called "Great Deities", are a group of Gods that stand above the other Gods as primordial beings that use the Four-Cornered World and the Adventurers as a form of Tabletop RPG game for their own amusement.

Like the "lesser" Gods, they are aligned to the forces of "Order" & "Chaos", however, the Great Gods seem to be "above" such things. The Great Gods are usually paired in groups of two similar or opposing forces that somehow work together.

Unlike the "lesser" Gods, however, this group is not necessarily worshiped by the Races of the Four-Cornered World, but their machinations are well known and revered/feared by the Races as “the roll of dice”.

  • Truth & Illusion: The main pair of Great Gods that affect the Four-Cornered World. Illusion is benevolent and creates many young women Adventurers that have the potential to become great Heroes. Truth on the other hand delights in causing mass chaos and Party Wipes for his own amusements, particularly for the heroines Illusion tries to make.
  • Life & Death: A pair of Order aligned Great Gods who are described as among the most "generous and benevolent" of Great Gods alongside Illusion. These two appear to be the only Great Gods the mortals are aware of to some degree as they venerate the pair in cemeteries.
  • Abundance & Void: A pair of Chaos-aligned Great Gods. Abundance creates the monsters out of thin air for Adventurers to battle. His actions imply he is unaware of the actual damage and pain his creations cause the Four-Cornered World as he is quite happy when Adventurers triumph over them. Void meanwhile is the absence of material and has the ability to make things disappear from the world to create situations for Adventurers.
  • Time & Fear

Trivia[]

  • The lizardman Race doesn't worship the conventional sect of Gods or Goddesses, instead choosing to deify their long-extinct ancestors the Dinosaurs. So in place of prayers and Godly favor, the Lizardmen use the bones of their ancestors as catalysts for their Miracles.
  • Being aligned with "Order" or "Chaos" doesn't make a God necessarily "good" or "evil"; it all depends on how the worshiper uses the blessing from the Gods (but in most cases it does simply boil down to Order is "Good" and Chaos is "Evil").
    • An example: The Mother of Darkness is a Chaos-aligned Goddess, but the Vikings view her as a reminder of how harsh the world can be and use her blessing for (painful) healing miracles.
  • Arc Mage apparently found a way into the realm of the Great Gods; the details of which is unknown.
