Overview

Just because I was set on bringing down a party today.

— Truth

Truth (真実, Shinjitsu) is a God in the Goblin Slayer universe, who is usually paired with the goddess Illusion in rolling dice to influence the lives of various Adventurers of the Four-Cornered World, preferring to make life harder for all of them, "just because".

Appearance[]

Truth, like the rest of the "Greater Gods" appearance has never been described in detail outside confirmation he is a male.

Personality[]

Truth is a somewhat sadistic individual who takes pleasure in creating misery for adventurers Illusion influences. He usually does so by making the adventures Illusion creates much harder than intended; such as whispering thoughts of betrayal into adventurers' ears or by adding additional monsters and traps.[1] As such, he displays interest in Goblin Slayer's ability to defy the gods' dice rolls, but also finds it irritating.[2]

Truth is usually the one behind any unexpected increases in difficulty for an adventure or more powerful monsters suddenly appearing in places they shouldn't be, such as the Giant Eye appearing in Water Town's sewers. This ties into his mild sadism and desire for spectacle when watching the fates of adventurers unfold.[1] Despite this sadism, however, Truth does enjoy when a party actually succeeds against his best efforts.

Chronology[]

Goblin Slayer Volume 1[]

While playing a game representing the lives of adventurers with his fellow gods, Truth noticed that a new Adventurer Illusion prepared came to the board much to his disgust and prepared a violent end for her, until the arrival of Goblin Slayer thwarts his efforts..

Goblin Slayer Volume 2[]

When Illusion unveiled a new dungeon, Truth assisted her by adding in new monsters and traps in hopes of making things that much harder for the Adventurers.

Goblin Slayer Volume 3[]

Truth is briefly mentioned by Illusion in her lair, having taken a liking to Dark Elf who wiped out Illusion's latest heroine, he prepared a campaign around the character, one that would spell doom to anyone that got in his way. Unbeknownst to him, Illusion had prepared machinations to stop him, machinations that took the form of Goblin Slayer.[3]

Goblin Slayer Volume 5[]

After watching Goblin Slayer's party and Noble Fencer successfully defeat a nest of Goblins inhabiting an old Dwarven fortress, both Illusion and Truth celebrated the outcome. Their visible joy gets the other Great Gods to celebrate with them.

Goblin Slayer Volume 6[]

A party of five novice rank adventurers took a quest to clear any monsters near where the training area was to be constructed. In some ruins, they had no trouble killing some inhabiting goblins, but to their surprise, came face to face with a Troll. With the Adventurers surrounded by both the troll and the Goblins, it did not take long for them to perish. In the high heaven, the god Truth smiled, satisfied that his machinations had destroyed a party.[4]

Goblin Slayer Volume 12[]

When Illusion worked with fellow Greater Gods Life and Death to create a new campaign, Truth tried to muscle his way in with Abundance but this time he was shot down from interfering by Life and Death who defended Illusion's campaign from his sadism.

Abilities[]

As a god Truth is able to affect the fates of mortals to a degree.
