Full Summary[]
While traveling through a field, Arc Mage asks Goblin Slayer what he was talking to the girl at the Adventurer's Guild about. Goblin Slayer merely said he helped the girl out. However, Arc Mage was talking about Witch, to which the male adventurer said he just asked her to do some work for him. Arc Mage finds that interesting given magic is her specialty. Though admits that she is his questgiver, and Goblin Slayer states that he can't take keep taking jobs from her.
Goblin Slayer still has no idea where they are going as Arc Mage has not provided that information. All he knows that it involved clearing goblins which is fine by him. Arc Mage comments if Goblin Slayer is hot in all that armor he wears, and he states that he is alright. But he notices that the woman doesn't seem to be sweating either.
The pair have been traveling for two days since they left town. And later when they make camp, at night, Arc Mage talks to Goblin Slayer, and learns that all he cares about is slaying goblins. Though she quickly turns her attention to enjoying the sausages that Cow Girl gave Goblin Slayer, finding them delicious. Goblin Slayer eats his food too, albeit through the grill of his helm, refusing to remove it. Although he admits he hadn’t noticed the taste.
Arc Mage can see Goblin Slayer is the type who only cares about food in terms of filling his belly and nutrition. Goblin Slayer comments on his teacher's suggestion if one wished to truly live then he should eat warm delicious food. Arc Mage learns that Goblin Slayer's teacher was a Rhea which doesn’t surprise Arc Mage.
As they eat, Arc Mage wonders how goblins would think of food in that are they happy or unhappy or can ever be sated. But Goblin Slayer doesn’t care, only on how to read what actions they take, not on what they think or feel. His female companion agrees.
The mage then talks aboutbGoblin Slayer’s decision for not writing book on goblins, she expresses that it’s not wrong. In her view, gaining knowledge does not bring happiness. Adding that one suffers from the search for knowledge. That the person who truly seeks knowledge is all too rare. The common people instead gain their information not from books but from ballads by bards.
This causes Goblin Slayer to reminiscence of the times when he and Cow Girl listened to the songs of the traveling bards that passed through their village when they were young. Arc Mage muses that their research is no different as they intend to pass knowledge down to their peers.
